Build Your Business By Hiring the Perfect Assistant

How to find an assistant

How you do find the perfect assistant?

My business really started to expand more rapidly once I made the big decision to hire an assistant.  I couldn’t really afford it at the time, and many weeks I felt like I was working to pay her, but I knew that to move forward, I had to start delegating.  It was the right decision to make, and it has paid off.  My assistant, Rachel, has been a loyal team member who has played a large part in the success of my business since she has been with me the past two and a half years.

Many of my clients and customers have asked my advice on how to hire their own Rachel.  (And a few people have even tried to hire Rachel for themselves!)  What that tells me is that my clients are just as happy with her as I am, which is exactly the type of person you want to hire.  If clients aren’t raving about your team members, you probably need to look deeper at the situation. Here is a brief ad that you can use to hire your own Rachel. Please people, she is not available for hire so please accept my help in finding your own. 😉

  1. Hi Cheryl,

Great post! I found the same to be true. At first I was afraid to hire an assistant as how could someone sell my services as well as myself since I’m the knowledge expert. Plus, I wondered if I could really afford to hire someone. But it became an easier decision when I realized that I was probably losing clients due to not having the time to call people back. In fact, it got to the point where I did not have time to call everyone back. So then it was a no brainer, I needed help.

Luckily, I found someone like your Rachel! Your suggestions were very helpful. The result is I can afford her, she can sell my services very well without being a knowledge expert, my clients rave about her, and she helps me in so many ways to grow my business and just to be a sound board as well. It is much more pleasurable to be in business with others rather than by oneself.

An added surprise, she (Amy) was a client of mine 15 years ago.

  2. That’s a great job description thingie!

A great way to get started is to find one task you do, that is on the time consuming side, doesn’t require a lot of skill, and is something you are already doing regularly right now.

  3. Hi Cheryl,

What a wonderful article, it’s so great to see somebody understanding the huge benefits of finding and working with the right VA for them. As you have experienced it can have a huge benefit on your business.

I love your job ad, it’s very detailed and precise for what you are looking for and it targets exactly who you want to work with instead of attracting all the VA’s you don’t want to work with.

    Great job

    Grainne
